Land Acknowledgment

The operations of Stage Left Theatre take place the stolen lands of the Council of the Three Fires: the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Potawatomi Nations, and the Illinois Confederacy: the Peoria and Kaskaskia Nations.

Many other nations also call this region their home including the Myaamia, Wea, Ho-Chunk, Menominee, Thakiwaki, Meskwaki, Kiikaapoi, and Mascouten. They used this land as a center for to gather, trade, and maintain kinship ties.

One of the largest urban American Indian communities in the United States still resides in Chicago as does the country’s oldest urban-based Native membership community center, the American Indian Center Chicago (AIC).

This acknowledgement is made as part of our commitment to correcting false narratives about settler colonialism and ending its harmful ongoing legacy.
